Author Spotlight – Meet Jennifer Snyder, New Adult and Young Adult Paranormal and Contemporary Romance author

Hi Jennifer, thank you for agreeing to spend some time with us. It’s lovely to have you here! Do tell us something about yourself …

I live in the United States tucked in the mountains of Western North Carolina with my husband and two children. We have a guinea pig and a yorkie puppy.

That’s wonderful. With all that going on, you still manage to write such great books. That’s pretty amazing! Tell us about your books …

I write both New Adult and Young Adult Paranormal and Contemporary Romance. Here is a little about the first in my latest series:

Some of you may know me because of my novel Break You, which is a New Adult Contemporary Romance novel and the first in my Coldcreek Companion Series. It’s about those moments in life that happen when we least expect it, the ones that hold all the power to break us completely. There are four companion novels within this series, because I loved each of these characters so much, I decided to give them all their own books. Also, Break You is a free download as well. You can find purchase links and learn more about the entire companion series by visiting my website: http://jennifersnyderbooks.com/coldcreek-series/

I hope you’ve gotten that down, people. Look out for Jennifer’s upcoming releases. I love that you write in different genres. What inspired you to become a writer?

I was the kid who loved to read. I kept a journal/diary, and I jotted down silly little poems or heartbreaking ones from time to time, but I was never the kid who wrote solid stories every second of the day. I didn’t start writing until later in life. And let me be the first to tell you, my very first book stunk. Big time.

It was so bad, in fact, every person who read the first version never asked to read the ending. So, I scrapped it. Well, not entirely. It’s still sitting in my hard drive collecting dust. The idea was okay, but the execution was horrible. I can admit that now. My second attempt at a story (different world, different characters) was long. Really long. Everyone did enjoy parts of it though, so it was progress in the right direction. I queried a little and received no positive response or feedback. So that book sat on the back burner as well.

Flash forward about a year or so. I’d stopped writing. I had moved to a new house. I now had two kids instead of just the one. I was also a stay-at-home mom. I read all the time. My mind was dying to be as creative as the authors whose worlds I devoured, but I didn’t try. I figured something would come to me eventually, but I had no creative juices at the time. Until one day… I was folding laundry and this voice popped into my head. It was a teenage boy, and he was so broken, so distraught with a situation that was taking place in front of him. I couldn’t let him go. I had to know what his story was. What happened to him, what caused him to feel so much pain? I grabbed a notebook and a pen, and began to write.

At first it was just clips of dialogue or random scenes, but then they expanded. A novel was born. One that was so different from anything I had ever read before I wasn’t sure what to do with it. At that point in my life I had never read a contemporary. Gasp! I know. Right?

I had given life to the angry teen boy in my head, but I didn’t know what to call the genre or what to do with it. So, I researched. And I found a whole world of books I never had given the time of day to. My mind was blown. I read crazy good teen romances and fell in love. Finally deciding Shattered Soul (what I titled the heartbreaking novel as) was ready for someone else’s eyes I queried. I didn’t send it out to those who had read my others before right away, because it was so different. It was dark, and gritty, and it touched on topics I thought were really edgy. I received rejection after rejection. Searching for confirmation the novel was worthy of something better than taking up space on my computer, I let those I love dearly read it. They cried. They told me how great it was. And I let that fuel me.

Christmas of 2010 my husband bought me the most glorious present ever—a kindle. I found a wealth of free novels, one being by a well-known Indie author Amanda Hocking. I read her book and went to her website to find more. This was where I learned her story of how her glorious book had made it to my hands. From there I researched everything I could about being Indie. In May of 2011 I decided I was going to take the plunge and upload Shattered Soul, and I haven’t looked back since…

So, we know who to thank for your wonderful books. That was a very honest and open account of your journey as a writer. Do you have a particular way of writing? Something that’s uniquely your style?

My method has changed over the years. I used to write during my daughter’s nap time, and some on the weekends. Once she started school I was able to write during the day and leave my weekends open to family time and catching up on housework. That last part sounds fun, right? Yeah, I didn’t think so. 😉

I used to write all of my chapters by hand in spiral bound notebooks. I would write a chapter by hand throughout the day, and then later that night or on the weekend add it to my computer. Now I write solely on a laptop that rarely ever leaves my desk. Enjoy writing in silence, unless I’ve found a song that really spurs inspiration for a scene. Then I’ll listen to that song on repeat forever.

In the summer, when both my kiddos are out of school for summer break, I wake at 5:30 a.m. so I can get some words in before they wake up.  Sometimes I get thousands in, and others a few hundred. Mornings and around 2:00 p.m. seem to be my best writing times for whatever reason.

Aspiring authors, I hope you’re listening. Determination and patience are a necessity in this profession, as you can see,

Do you use many social media platforms? Which one do you use the most?

Facebook. For sure. I have a group for fans of my novels called Snyder’s Sidekicks and can be found chatting with those in the group a few times per day. It’s been amazing to connect with readers in an environment that’s laid back and fun! I adore each member.

Seriously? You have your own entourage? Well, you have a new sidekick now. Those who would like to become part of Jennifer’s sidekicks, here’s the link –

Snyder’s Sidekicks – https://www.facebook.com/groups/1580842518825157/

Do you blog too?

I used to blog quite frequently when I first started out. Now I mainly blog about cover reveals, sales, updates, or release info for my novels. You can check out my blog by visiting my website: http://jennifersnyderbooks.com/

I’m sure you have hundreds of reviews for your various books. Do you have a favourite review?

So many have taken the time to read and review my novels that it wouldn’t feel right to single one or two out. I do read them all though, the good and the bad, and am thankful beyond words for those who support my stories by leaving a review for others to see.

I love this question, the one when you realise that somewhere, sometime you’ve become an author. Your ‘Yes, I’m an author” moment …

Ah. This moment. I’ve had a few over the years, but the one that stands out to me most at the moment is when a person I went to high school with happened to message me on Facebook that while browsing through her mother’s bookshelf for something to read one day she stumbled upon my Marked Duology series and was shocked to realize she knew me.

I can only imagine. That feeling must have been surreal. Really makes every effort worth it, right? Btw,I love your book covers! Look at this one, it’s beautiful …

Product Details

Who designs them? Do you have any input in the design of your covers?

I’ve worked with many cover artists over the four years I’ve been in this business, and each of them have been amazing. However, I’ve worked most with Once Upon A Time Covers and Lindee Robinson Photography.

We know you as Jennifer Snyder, the author. Let’s take a look at Jennifer Snyder, the reader and person. What kind of books do you like to read?

My love of reading goes way back. It has always been something I’ve enjoyed. That being said, I think I go through spurts of genres. I can’t say that I have one specific genre I love above all others, because I’m such a fan of the written word. Recently I’ve devoured the second book in Courtney Summers’ zombie series Please Remain Calm. (I’m actually dying for another instalment! There has to be one!), T. A. Foster’s The Magnolia Affair, Alyssa Rose Ivy’s Forged in Stone, and Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl. I have no doubt there will be many more I eat up this year. My to-be-read list is a long one…

What is your favorite book made into a movie?

I’m always disappointed by the book to movie bit. To me, the books are always WAY better. The only one I can say I enjoyed both equally was the first Hunger Games book to movie adaptation.

True, that’s my favourite one as well.

Some quirky questions

If you were in a crayon box, what color would you be and why?

Green. It’s my favorite color, but also is a vibrant yet soothing color. To me, it’s the color of life. Green trees, green grass, green smoothies. I love it!

You bring new meaning to “Go Green”. It feels like you’re pretty passionate about the environment and a healthy lifestyle. That’s very nice.

If you were a kid, who would you want to grow up to be?

I wanted to be Buffy, from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Seriously. She was kickass and had a great sense of style. I’d still be her, if I was given the option.

That’s a new one and I love it. Being a Vampire Slayer would be pretty cool …

If you’re stuck on a desert island, who would you want to be stuck with?

Channing Tatum. For sure. He could dance for me to pass the time…

Lol … Note to readers … notice the “dance for me” and not a “dance with me”!

How do you decide on your character’s names?

I pay attention to names when watching TV. The clips where they tell you the characters real names with pictures of their faces. If I see one I like, I jot it down in my notebook of names. I do the same if I meet someone with a cool name. Recently though, I was driving back from the beach and thinking of the book I had planned on starting when I got home. I’d plotted out basic things and was trying to come up with names for the main characters…so I started reading the street signs. I live in the south so names are often named after people, like their whole name is the road name. This was how I came up with my names for the book, first and last.

What dessert would you be and why?

This is the hardest question. I have a love for all things lemon, coconut, vanilla, or peanut butter. So anything with one or more of those!!

Jennifer, thank you for spending time with us. It was a blast and it was great getting to know you. For those who want to know more about Jennifer, become her friend, stalk her (haha) and read her books, here are the links to her pages. Give it up for Jennifer Snyder, everyone!

Peace by Piece by S.J..McGran – Blog Tour

Title: Peace by Piece
Author: S.J McGran
Release Date: June 29, 2015
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Synopsis
There’s an expiration date on every life. A ticking clock counting down the seconds until you no longer exist in this world.
Each tick of the clock is louder for me.
I don’t have an eternity. I have one year. Just twelve short months.
If life promised an infinity he could have been my forever, and without a doubt I should have been his always.
Excerpt
“Been
waiting for you, Genevieve. I know it. You were made for me.” He continues
assaulting my lips and neck with his kisses, pausing at the hollow of my throat
to whisper there, “You feel that? You feel the world tip on its axis when we’re
together? It’s earth-shattering. It’s like we can fix everything that’s wrong
in this world just by being together. Do you feel it, V?”
I
let out a needy moan from the back of my throat. I want to feel it. I want his
words to be true. I want more than anything in this world for our relationship,
for his kisses to have healing powers.
Standing there in the middle of my tiny cabin, with the most
beautiful, amazing man holding me in his arms, with his lips driving my pulse
through the roof, I send up a silent prayer to every God that might be
listening to let his words be true.
Please, let him heal me. Let this
pain, this suffering be worth something. Give me this man, please. Give him to
me and I’ll never ask for anything again. I’ll be your greatest servant, your
best disciple. Just give me this man. Please.
He
pulls back and I feel the loss of his touch immediately. “Come on, sweetness,
we need to get you washed up.” Grabbing my hand in his he pulls me through the
one room cabin to the small closed-off bathroom. Picking me up he sets me on
the vanity while he goes to the shower to test the water temperature. Once he’s
apparently satisfied, he turns back to me
and takes my breath away with the strength of
his stare.
This
wasn’t supposed to be our fate. He’s just a kid. He’s not supposed to fall in
love, yet.
And,
yet I know it is inevitable. I see it in the way he looks at me, the way he
touches me. It doesn’t make sense and yet there it is. I recognize it because
if I were to force my eyes off of him and look at myself in the mirror I’d see
the same emotions reflected back at me.
This
is the moment where I either push or jump.
And,
I have no idea what to do.
“Don’t
shut me out,” his words are whisper quiet but they bounce off the tiled walls
mockingly. “Don’t push me away, V. Don’t fight this.”
“I
have to, Levi. I can’t let you fall in love with me.”
He
steps up to me and once again nestles my face in his steady grasp. “You don’t
have a choice.” He absorbs whatever argument I was going to say with his kiss.
Expertly he pushes back my excuses, making me focus on nothing but the way he
makes me feel. He completely surrounds me and I get lost in him. Just like he
wanted.

About S.J McGran
One day I woke up and realized there were people living inside of me. Their words were too potent to ignore. So, I started writing them. I started telling their stories. And, now I’m too addicted to stop.
When I’m not writing and talking to imaginary people I’m probably curled up on the couch with my husband, and one of our fur babies.
My other obsessions include reading smutty romance, the Detroit Tiger, ice cream, pizza, coffee, and craft beer.

Meet S.J. McGran – Author of the Triumph Series – and check out her new book, releasing tomorrow!

Hi S.J., let’s get to know you – tell us something about yourself

My name is S.J McGran. I am from Toledo, OH. I have a husband and two fur-babies, Spirit (puppy) and Grandy (cat). I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication, Public Relations.

I am obsessed with black and white photography, the Detroit Tigers, coffee, dark chocolate, pizza, ice cream, and craft beer. When I’m not writing or reading, I am probably walking my pup, playing disc golf with the hubs, playing softball, or generally doing something active. Although, I am by no means healthy. I mean, did you see some of my favorite foods? 😉

Ha, ha, you’re talking to a foodie. A little birdie told me that you have a new book coming out any day now?tears

My newest release, Peace by Piece, is a standalone, contemporary romance about a couple that has to face a tough decision. Levi Tillman has to decide what to do when he finds out the woman he loves, Genevieve Weston, only has one year to live.

I write contemporary and new adult romance.

The Triumph series is three books: Vanquish, Conquer, and Prevail. The series is about overcoming your pasts, fears, addictions, and doubts. Each book has overlapping characters, but features a new lead couple, so you do not have to read the series in order, however I would recommend doing so.

Hear that people, get your hands on these great reads this summer, or any time of the year, actually. I’m sure you have quite a following, S.J. But who do you follow? Who are your favourite authors, what are your favourite reads?

I am definitely a romance reader. From time to time, I will read something outside of my comfort zone, but rarely. My favorite authors are Kendall Ryan, JA Redmerski, Tessa Teevan, Gail McHugh, and AL Jackson.

If I had to pick a favorite book(s), I would have to go with the Edge of Never and the Edge of Always by JA Redmerski as they are probably the two I’ve read the most.

Your journey as a writer?

I’ve always enjoyed writing in school, in fact it is why I chose the major I did. At one point in my life, I thought I’d write children’s books. I may still do that someday, however right now I’m on a completely different path.

I wrote my first book in November 2013 for NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). NaNo is a challenge to write 50,000 words in one month (which ends up being about half of a full-length novel.) I did the challenge and realized it was as hard as I had originally thought it to be. I ended up hating the book, and am not sure it will ever get published, but it was a start. After that, I sat down and wrote Jared and Zhoe’s story, Vanquish, and haven’t looked back.

That’s rather cool! What is your writing zone? Silence, music, coffee, wine, notebook, laptop? What gets those grey cells working?

Typically, I write in the morning. This is because my husband works second shift and sleeps in late so I have the mornings all to myself to concentrate. When it’s nice outside, I like to write on my patio, otherwise I usually write on my couch in my living room.

I have to have music to write, although I rarely pay attention to what song is on or if it inspires a certain scene, which is why I never include playlists with my books. But, I do need the noise.

I love writing in a notebook. I find, especially when I’m stuck in a writer’s block, it helps me think more creatively and keeps me from getting distracted on Facebook, etc.

I do agree. It feels so much more personal to put words down on paper than typing on a machine. (Let’s not tell the machine that, huh? It’s a bit temperamental)

Moving on to connecting with readers, marketing etc, what is your most used social media platform and why?

I use Facebook the most often. I think for me right now, most of my readers are there. I do use Twitter, but not as much as I should.

Here is the link to my Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/sjcmgran

I also have a readers group where I do giveaways and perks, such as sneak peeks at new books, and where we talk hot men and good books. SJ’s [Sinful] Angels is open to anyone! http://www.facebook.com/groups/sjsangels

Oooh! Swag! Who doesn’t like that? And hot gossip! And free books! Need more reasons to sign up?

Btw, are you a blogger too?

Uh, not nearly as much as I should. Okay, I’ll be honest I really never blog. But, I do have a website that I try to keep updated as much as possible.

http://www.sjmcgran.com

Your ‘Yes, I’m an author” moment?

I don’t know that I’ve really had that moment, yet. I think I’m afraid to think of myself that way because I don’t want writing to lose its excitement. I don’t ever want to think of it as a job. Writing is something I love doing and I want it to remain that way.

Your book art and covers are exquisite. Who designs them?

As of right now, I do all of my covers myself.

Talented in many ways. Do you have a dream cast of characters for your book if it is turned into a movie? Do tell!

For Peace by Piece I think I would cast Luke Bryan as Levi (yes, I know he’s not an actor but he’s a sexy cowboy) and Christina Hendricks as Genevieve.

Excellent choices … and HOT!  And which is your favorite book made into a movie?

Fault_in_our_stars(courtesy:http://bit.ly/1TWKwsp)

The Fault in Our Stars. I thought they did a pretty good job with the adaption. But, really as readers do we ever like the movie of our favorite books?

That’s true, though I have to confess that I like the Divergent movies better than the books. (Don’t tell anyone, though)

Would you share an excerpt from your latest book Piece by Piece?

“Been waiting for you, Genevieve. I know it. You were made for me.” He continues assaulting my lips and neck with his kisses, pausing at the hollow of my throat to whisper there, “You feel that? You feel the world tip on its axis when we’re together? It’s earth-shattering. It’s like we can fix everything that’s wrong in this world just by being together. Do you feel it, V?”

Hm … definitely, a must read … any sneak peeks at future projects?

Right now, I’m working on a mini-series, two books that will be part of the Caught Looking Series. It’s about baseball players. =)

Sounds interesting. Looking forward to that!

What cause is dear to your heart and why?

The American Cancer Society because cancer has touched too many people in my life.

If your story is turned to a movie, which band would you want to play the title song?

sheeran1(courtesy:http://bit.ly/1CC242m)

I would have to go with Ed Sheeran as he’s what I listen to the most while writing.

I love his music too. Excellent choice. 🙂

If you were in a crayon box, what color would you be and why?

Royal Purple is my favorite color, but I’m going to go with Razzle Dazzle Rose because hello, that’s an awesome name for a crayon!

Quirky! 🙂 If you were a kid, who would you want to grow up to be?

sandra-bullock_416x416(courtesy:http://bit.ly/1eRNzSU)

Sandra Bullock. I love her. She’s beautiful, talented, quirky, funny, and down-to-Earth.

She is rather awesome, isn’t she? If you’re stuck on a desert island, who would you want to be stuck with?

My husband. Yes, I know it’s cheesy but he is trained in survival skills and if I was going to spend the rest of my life with one person, it’d be him!

Aw, that’s romantic! Lucky man!

How do you decide on your character’s names?

Google. For example, Angelica (from Conquer) is a snobby, rich girl so that’s what I Googled, from there I picked from a list. Some of them, like Levi (from Peace by Piece) just came to me. It felt right.

What dessert would you be and why?

Salted Caramel Ice Cream Sundae. Because I’m sweet, a little bitter, and definitely not for everyone.

Ooh! I see where the heroines in your book come from. 😛

Thank you so much S.J. I had a lovely time. I hope you did too. S,.J.Gran, everbody, let’s hear it for her. Congrats again! Reminder for all those who’d like to read her books, connect with her or just stalk her (aside: she likes that, you know 🙂 ). Here are her links again.

Wired for sound by Cherime McFarlane

Product Details

For those who love rock and roll and reading, this is the perfect book for you. The author has an in depth knowledge of bands, tours and the behind the scenes action of a major tour. As with all artists, tempers run high and emotions get out of hand. Cherime Mcfarlane brings out the essence of the Scot in Hamish beautifully and his conflict over his love for Lori and his doubts about her, make that love story very interesting. A good mystery and an enjoyable read!

Savage Surrogate by Dorothy Mercer

Product Details

The Savage Surrogate caught me completely by surprise. Though the summary hints at suspense and mystery, I thought it was mainly a romantic novel. This is the first McBride book that I’ve read. Now I want to read the others. A dashing personality, suave and stylish, Dorothy Mercer has created a male character that women will find appealing.

The book holds your attention from the start and you are drawn into the murky underworld along with the protagonists, as they dig deeper to figure out what happened to Fran. The characters of Fran and Juliette have been given equal space and developed well. Both come out as strong, independent women. A captivating read…one I would recommend!

Chaysing Memories by Jalpa Williby

Product Details

I read Chaysing Dreams a year back and have been waiting to get my hands on Chaysing Memories to find out what happens next. In Chaysing Dreams Tessnia was a young girl, just finding herself and dealing with the loss of her parents. She finds the love of her life only to lose him. We’re left wondering …
In Chaysing Memories, Jalpa Williby has developed her character from a young, brave but innocent girl, to a tough, tantalizing woman, who will stop at nothing to find what she’s looking for, though she doesn’t know what it is. She doesn’t remember. I won’t say anymore about the book itself and spoil it for you.
Tessnia and her friends, her relatives, her colleagues and her love are portrayed very well, and you get caught in all the emotions that she is going through. I started this book in the morning and stayed up late because I had to finish it and find out what happens at the end. This is not just a love story, it is the story of a strong independent woman and is an action packed, suspense filled thriller too.

When a drunk truck driver claimed Lydia’s husband and son, her world shattered. The small town that once embraced her was now her personal hell. She made the decision to leave her hometown of Nazareth, Pennsylvania and move to Eastport, Maine, to start over in the last happy place she ever knew.

When the sea tried to claim Ryan, he was left a broken man. Starting over in a wheelchair was the last thing he expected to do. Ryan was born to be a lobster fisherman, not a buoy. When Lydia became his home care nurse, he never expected her to be the light at the end of his tunnel.

Will their broken hearts survive a second chance or will they remain locked in their cages?

Lobsters mate for life. Lobster love is forever.

9/11/2001 and a line of duty injury, she left her role as an EMT with FDNY-EMS

for a quieter life. She pursued Bachelor’s degrees in Molecular Biosciences and

English. Her love of books and introduction to the Indie book world led to many

wonderful friendships including Jennifer Tocheny and the drive to write and

publish was ignited. Jody loves to travel and meet new people and has lived in

four states and has visited 48 out of 50 US states.

Still a

resident of New York City, Jody is an Executive Assistant at a design firm and

single mom to her daughter Ariel Elizabeth and her two cats, Bullet and Oreo.

Jennifer

Tocheny…

Jennifer

is a resident of Nazareth, Pennsylvania, where this book originates, and works

full time as a home care nurse. Jennifer has been a LPN since 1998. She has

always been an avid reader and enjoys book signings, flea markets, going to the

beach, spending time with family and friends, and road trips. When this crazy

idea was born one Saturday afternoon, Jenn switched gears from reader to

writer.

Jenn has

been married for 11 years to Chris Tocheny and they have a 6 year old son,

Logan who loves moose.
